Technology has become the heart and soul of every business. The hardware boundaries of IT have exploded beyond data centers, with mobile devices in the hands of both employees and customers alike. Application options have blossomed, from traditional to open source to software-as-a-service. Business has become global, bringing with it a demand for round-the-clock agility. Employees expect that the applications they use at work should be as easy to use as the Web apps they use at home. Integration remains difficult, because it’s sometimes impossible to know what will happen when someone tries to pluck one strand out of the pile. IT workload and system complexity will only get more challenging, bringing the need for disintermediation through service automation.

When buying a workstation, price-performance matters. But it’s not the only consideration. Also important is aligning features and capabilities with user applications and workloads. So are system optimization, expandability and support. While many buyers — especially in graphics, video and multimedia fields — might consider Apple’s iMac, iMac Pro and MacBook Pro models best suited to their needs, they may be selling themselves short in many ways. This paper provides a checklist for buyers to compare Apple’s newest high-end offerings with the latest Dell Precision wokstations. Download this guide from Dell and Intel® to learn more. The broad adoption of the next generation of cloud, mobile, M2M, and big data applications is having profound impacts on IT and network infrastructures. Compared to traditional applications, these applications have much shorter life cycles. You must be able to spin them up, spin them down, and grow and shrink them on demand. Furthermore, you must be able to move these application workloads within a data center or across geographically distributed data centers, resulting in increased management complexities.

Today’s digital businesses are managed using critical business analyses that provide far greater insight into the business and how to maximize results. However, these high-value applications that use the latest software tools demand far more from IT infrastructure, as they utilize an order of magnitude more data and demand more compute resources than legacy applications. Legacy systems are no longer capable of meeting the present and future needs of the organization. Forward-thinking IT organizations are developing new infrastructure strategies to better support high-value analytics workloads with Dell EMC PowerEdge Servers powered by Intel® Xeon® Platinum processor.

Public cloud will continue to be a viable deployment model for some applications, primarily software as a service (SaaS) and less differentiated horizontal workloads like test/dev and infrastructure. Workloads that define the business—the high value vertical applications or those containing confidential / sensitive data—will remain on-premises. Not everything can move to a public cloud, and each day sharpens the understanding that more IT deployments will be on-premises. Hybrid IT will be the de facto deployment strategy. OpenShift-Kubernetes offers an excellent automated application deployment framework for container-based workloads. Services such as traffic management (load balancing within a cluster and across clusters/regions), service discovery, monitoring/analytics, and security are a critical component of an application deployment framework. Enterprises require a scalable, battle-tested, and robust services fabric to deploy business-critical workloads in production environments. This whitepaper provides an overview of the requirements for such application services and explains how Avi Networks provides a proven services fabric to deploy container based workloads in production environments using OpenShift- Kubernetes clusters.

IDC's research shows that, worldwide, over 70% of enterprise cloud users currently rely on multiple clouds (public and/or private) to support a wide range of applications and workloads. Efficient management of these resources depends on IT operations and DevOps teams having access to consistent, accurate infrastructure performance monitoring data and reporting that span the full set of on-premise cloud infrastructure and public cloud IaaS services. CA Technologies recently announced new capabilities for CA Unified Infrastructure Management (CA UIM) that allow the product to more fully address the monitoring needs of complex multicloud infrastructure as part of delivering on CA's vision to fully enable the agile DevOps in the application economy.

Business leaders expect two things from IT: keep mission-critical applications available and high performing 24x7 and, if something does happen, recover to be back in business quickly and without losing any critical data so there is no impact on revenue stream. Of course, there is a gap between this de facto expectation from nontechnical business leaders and what current technology is actually capable of delivering. For mission-critical workloads, which are most often hosted on databases, organizations may choose to implement high availability (HA) technologies within the database to avoid downtime and data loss.

Technology is in a constant state of evolution, and the world of automation is no exception. In this eBook, we’ll consider how you can stay ahead of the competition—because in the application economy, it’s vital to ensure the tools your organization uses are capable of positioning you at the forefront of industry—not just today, but tomorrow as well. We are heading toward a scenario where workload automation tools are capable of thinking for themselves and making decisions based on policy; this is what we at CA Technologies are calling intelligent automation. At the same time, however, more and more challenges are being presented as the increasingly fragmented places our workloads run begin to impact our analytics, reporting and processes. The task is to navigate these hurdles while at the same time allowing our enterprises to harness the power of new technology.

CA Technologies automation solutions help organizations increase business productivity by simplifying the management of complex workloads and empowering development teams with self-service tools that accelerate the development and delivery of new and enhanced applications. CA Technologies commissioned Forrester Consulting to conduct a Total Economic Impact™ (TEI) study and examine the potential return on investment (ROI) that enterprises may realize from automation. The purpose of this study is to provide readers with a framework to evaluate the potential financial impact of CA on their organizations. To better understand the benefits, costs, and risks associated with CA workload automation (WLA) solutions, Forrester interviewed an existing customer with years of experience using CA. The organization that Forrester interviewed manufactures consumer electronics that it sells through retailers around the globe. Download this whitepaper to find out more.

You are most likely reading this because you are either an Oracle Retail customer or are about to embark on an Oracle Retail implementation. As with all major application implementations, you must make a significant investment, often of several months or more, to develop a reliable and efficient batch schedule. With CA Automic Workload Automation, you can cut the batch schedule development and implementation time to just a few weeks, and also reduce ongoing maintenance. The result is reduced total cost of ownership (TCO). This white paper describes how CA can help significantly shorten your Oracle Retail batch schedule development time. In addition, the paper describes how this Oracle Validated solution optimizes performance of Oracle Retail so your core retail processes will run faster and be more agile.

As agencies continue to modernize data center infrastructure to meet evolving mission needs and technologies, they are turning to agile software and cloud solutions. One such solution is hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI), a melding of virtual compute, storage, and networking capabilities supported by commodity hardware. With data and applications growing exponentially along with the need for more storage capacity and flexibility, HCI helps offset the rising demands placed on government IT infrastructure. HCI also provides a foundation for hybrid cloud, helping agencies permanently move applications and workloads into public cloud and away from the data center.

For more and more organizations, the new reality for development, deployment and delivery of applications and services is hybrid cloud. Few, if any, organizations are going to move all their strategic workloads to the cloud, but virtually every enterprise is embracing cloud for a wide variety of requirements. In fact, hybrid cloud is the new norm for IT. IDC says more than 80% of enterprise IT organizations will commit to hybrid cloud by 20171, and 70% of IT decision-makers say they will always have a mix of traditional IT and cloud architectures.2 With important applications and workloads architected across both on-premises and hybrid, public and private cloud environments, business and IT stakeholders must be able to access data with equal efficiency, reliability and speed—regardless of physical location, infrastructure type or time frame.
