Big data applications represent a fast-growing category of high-value applications that are increasingly employed by business and technical computing users. However, they have exposed an inconvenient dichotomy in the way resources are utilized in data centers. Conventional enterprise and web-based applications can be executed efficiently in virtualized server environments, where resource management and scheduling is generally confined to a single server. By contrast, data-intensive analytics and technical simulations demand large aggregated resources, necessitating intelligent scheduling and resource management that spans a computer cluster, cloud, or entire data center. Although these tools exist in isolation, they are not available in a general-purpose framework that allows them to inter operate easily and automatically within existing IT infrastructure.

Tech advances like the cloud, mobile technology, and the app-based software model have changed the way today’s modern business operates. They’ve also changed the way criminals attack and steal from businesses. Criminals strive to be agile in much the same way that companies do. Spreading malware is a favorite technique among attackers. According to the 2019 Data Breach Investigations Report, 28% of data breaches included malware.¹ While malware’s pervasiveness may not come as a surprise to many people, what’s not always so well understood is that automating app attacks—by means of malicious bots —is the most common way cybercriminals commit their crimes and spread malware. It helps them achieve scale.

Network performance and security are vital elements of any business. Organisations are increasingly adopting virtualisation and cloud technologies to boost productivity, cost savings and market reach. With the added complexity of distributed network architectures, full visibility is necessary to ensure continued high performance and security. Greater volumes of data, rapidlyevolving threats and stricter regulations have forced organisations to deploy new categories of security tools, e.g. Web Access Firewalls (WAFs) or Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS). Yet, simply adding more security tools may not always be the most efficient solution.

The Insurance industry continues to undergo significant transformation, with new technologies, business models, and competitors entering the market at an increasing rate. To be successful in attracting and retaining the most valuable customers, insurance companies must innovate and increase the speed at which they respond to customer demands. Traditionally, the insurance software market was dominated by a handful of specialist vendors with products that were initially expensive, difficult to deploy, costly to maintain, and did not provide the speed needed for today’s market. Now there has been a shift away from these “black box” applications to platforms that allow insurers to make their algorithmic IP available to business users, allowing much faster response to business demands. The algorithmic platform approach also comes at a fraction of the cost of black box solutions, while delivering advanced analytical techniques like Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

This operating model should offer a way of running the organization that combines digital technologies and operational capabilities to achieve improvements in revenue, customer experience and cost. Enabling digital capabilities via the TOM is an ongoing process that requires DevOps skills and agile development techniques. This is easier to achieve with partners that have the requisite capabilities to help with the creation of new digital assets

Digital disruption, economic instability, political upheavals and skills shortages have all at some point in the past 24 months been blamed for business failure, or at the very least, lost profitability and earnings. It’s perhaps not a huge surprise that a Gartner CEO survey on business priorities revealed that digital business is a top priority for next year. Survey respondents were asked whether they have a management initiative or transformation program to make their business more digital. The majority (62 percent) said they did. Of those organisations, 54 percent said that their digital business objective is transformational while 46 percent said the objective of the initiative is optimisation.* So, for businesses it’s a case of learning to evolve and be agile, to use technology to help compete more efficiently and not fall victim to inertia. As businesses become increasingly dependent on the insights from data analytics and face-up to competition fuelled by the 24/7 society of in

Envision this situation at a growing bank. Its competitive landscape demands an agile response to evolving customer needs. Fortunately, analytically minded professionals in different divisions are seeing results that positively affect the bottom line. • A data scientist in the business development team analyzes data to create customized • experiences for premium customers. • A digital marketer tracks and influences the customer journey for prospective • mortgage customers. • A risk analyst builds risk models for the bank’s loan portfolios. • A data analyst examines data about local customers. • A technical architect defines a new system to protect bank data from internal and • external cyberthreats. • An application developer builds a new mobile app for online customer portfolio • management. Between them, these employees might be using more than a dozen packages for analytics and data management.
