Organizations are embracing cloud-based solutions at an unprecedented rate. The transition to a cloud-first strategy is no longer viewed as a luxury but as a necessity for businesses to compete. According to a 2018 study, cloud computing will have the biggest impact on analytics initiatives, followed by big data, AI and machine learning, and IoT. Because today’s state-of-the-art solutions will likely be quickly outdated, organizations now want to invest in systems that can meet their changing needs. Attributes like flexibility and agility will allow these businesses to seamlessly tackle changing business requirements.

For the second year, MicroStrategy has surveyed business intelligence and analytics decision makers from around the world about the current state of their organization’s analytics initiatives and their plans for the future. Respondents were asked about benefits realized, challenges to success, priorities, and investments—and most importantly, if current initiatives to create and deliver on a data-driven culture and business were moving forward. As in the previous year’s survey, respondents had no doubt about the importance of data and analytics when it came to digital transformation (see figure 1). Yet, this year’s analysis uncovered that, as the reality of 2020 and a new decade of accelerated innovation set in, a smaller set of leaders were confident in their progress to date.

A picture is worth a thousand words But in the case of dashboards, pictures can quickly translate into thousands of dollars. Information is arguably better absorbed through vivid visualizations as opposed to monotonous grids, as visualizations can address the scope and dimensions of underlying data in a succinct and digestible format. Businesses today rely on a myriad of charts and graphs that go beyond the traditional bars, pies, and gauges to convey information. Modern visualizations have pushed analytics to new levels, and organizations can publish information in unique, highly visual representations. Open source libraries including D3, Google Charts, and Highcharts have presented creative options for business analysts wanting to design intuitive dashboards that convey complex information effectively to enable quick decision making. If the charts and graphs you currently use aren’t cutting it, here are seven visualizations that can bring new meaning and purpose to your dashboards

A&BI platforms are transitioning from delivering simple, manual self-service to supporting more advanced, automated analytic use cases via growing, augmented, ML-driven capabilities. Data and analytics leaders should enable broader use cases to increase their investments’ business impact. Analytics and business intelligence (A&BI) platforms exhibit differences in functional capabilities, particularly in their support for advanced analytics, data source connectivity and embedded functionality. As the market matures, the capabilities required to build and deliver user-friendly analytics dashboards are the least differentiated. The trend toward assisting users with augmented data discovery functionality continues, but many products still lack enough support for this critical capability. When viewed across the whole span of capabilities, significant differences remain between competing platforms and, therefore, also between which are most appropriate for a given use case. In some cases, th

Digital transformation is reshaping the business landscape faster now than at any other time in history. While it once took decades to disrupt a market, natively digital companies have disrupted their industries in just half a decade. Digitization is creating new winners and losers at an unprecedented rate. Organizations that adopt a digital strategy will leapfrog the competition, while those that do not will risk becoming irrelevant within five years. One important step in becoming a digital enterprise is gaining agility—that is, having the ability to take advantage of market opportunities faster than the competition. Prior to implementing the Anaplan platform, RSA Group had a tedious spreadsheet-based, nine-month planning cycle riddled with data quality issues, which was compounded by siloed, functional fragmentation across the company. As a result, the finance team was spending a significant amount of time cleaning data rather than analyzing it to provide insight to key stakeholders throughout the business. Using the Anaplan platform, RSA Group reduced their financial planning process from nine months to five months. The workforce planning team experienced a 50% improvement in productivity. The business can now own their connected plans, resulting in improved decision support to business users, as well as improved customer service and financial results.
