cBackground Fulfilling the security and compliance obligations within the AWS Shared Responsibility Model is critical as organizations shift more of their infrastructure to the cloud. Most infrastructure and application monitoring solutions haven’t caught up to meet these new requirements, forcing IT and security teams to resort to traditional monitoring strategies that don’t allow for innovation and growth. Join us for this webinar to learn how Splunk and AWS give you end-to-end visibility across your applications and help quickly detect potential security threats. Find out how Experian leveraged Splunk Cloud to deliver log data in near real-time to their operations teams for analysis and monitoring, roll out new features/updates faster, create reusable features to deploy in multiple customer environments to scale with their business, and ensure adherence to security and compliance standards.

Securing cloud environments is different from securing traditional data centers and endpoints. The dynamic nature of the cloud requires continuous assessment and automation to avoid misconfigurations, compromises, and breaches. It can also be difficult to gain complete visibility across dynamic and rapidly changing cloud environments — limiting your ability to enforce security at scale. On top of these challenges, cloud governance is critical to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and security policies as they evolve. Because cloud deployments are not just implemented once and left untouched, organizations need to consider how to integrate security into their CI/CD pipeline and software development lifecycle. Implementing a security solution that addresses cloud challenges requires deep security and cloud expertise that organizations often do not have. Once in the cloud, organizations manage and create environments via automation, adapt their workloads to changes by automa

Many companies want to take advantage of public cloud features, but aren’t willing to compromise on the performance, security and control that they require for their business applications and data. Public clouds have the potential to introduce performance issues caused by “noisy neighbors,” security concerns associated with placing sensitive data in a shared infrastructure environment, and a lack of control driven by the inability to customize and fine-tune cloud resources to meet the needs of a given application.

Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASBs) serve as a critical control point to ensure the secure and compliant use of cloud apps and services. Cloud service providers typically maintain a shared responsibility policy for security—they guarantee the integrity of their service infrastructure, but the customer is responsible for securing actual app usage. In addition to the growing cloud security challenges organizations face to safeguard data and protect against threats in the cloud, total volume of cloud app adoption is accelerating, with most of it being done by business units and employees without approval or security oversight from the IT organization. As a result, CASB functionality has become so critical that by 2020 it is projected that 80% of enterprises will use a CASB solution. (Gartner)

The technology pendulum is always swinging. And chief information security officers must be prepared to swing with it—or get clocked. A look at recent history illustrates the oscillating nature of technology. In the 1980s, IBM mainframes dominated the landscape. In the ’90s, client-server computing came on the scene and data was distributed on personal computers. When the Web assumed predominance, the pendulum started to swing back to a centralized server. Then, just as quickly, mobile took the lead, with apps downloaded to workers’ devices—the new client server. Now, as mobile devices continue to populate the enterprise at a rapid rate, the IT model is changing again—to the provisioning of information on a just-what’s-needed, just-in-time basis from centralized servers consolidated in the cloud. The pendulum continues to swing and IT workloads are moving to the cloud en masse.

The information explosion, the proliferation of endpoint devices, growing user volumes and new computing models like cloud, social business and big data have created new vulnerabilities. Data security is a moving target—as data grows, more sophisticated threats emerge; the number of regulations increase; and changing economic times make it difficult to secure and protect data. Because data is a critical component of daily business operations, it is essential to ensure privacy and protect data no matter where it resides. Different types of information have different protection requirements; therefore, organizations must take a holistic and systematic approach to safeguarding information.

Data—dynamic, in demand and distributed—is challenging to secure. But you need to protect sensitive data, whether it’s stored on-premises, off-site, or in big-data, private- or hybrid-cloud environments. Protecting sensitive data can take many forms, but nearly any organization needs to keep its data accessible, protect data from loss or compromise, and comply with a raft of regulations and mandates. These can include the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Even in the cloud, where you may have less immediate control, you must still control your sensitive data—and compliance mandates still apply.
