The traditional approach to cybersecurity has been to use a prevention-centric strategy focused on blocking attacks. While prevention-centric approaches do stop many threats, many of today’s advanced and motivated threat actors are circumventing these defenses with creative, stealthy, targeted, and persistent attacks that often go undetected for significant periods of time.

Globally, sophisticated cyber-attacks are compromising organizations at an unprecedented rate and with devastating consequences. Modern attackers, including criminal organizations, ideological groups, nation states and other advanced threat actors are motivated by a wide range of objectives that include financial gain, industrial espionage, cyber-warfare, and terrorism. The world has changed. Yesterday everyone had a managed PC for work and all enterprise data was behind a firewall. Today, mobile devices are the control panel for our personal and professional lives. This change has contributed to the single largest technology-driven lifestyle change of the last 10 years. As productivity tools, mobile devices now access significantly more data than in years past. This has made mobile the new frontier for a wide spectrum of risk that includes cyber attacks, a range of malware families, non-compliant apps that leak data, and vulnerabilities in device operating systems or apps. A secure digital business ecosystem demands technologies that enable organizations to continuously monitor for threats and provide enterprise-wide visibility into threat intelligence.

Most people define mobile devices – smartphones and tablets – as those running a mobile-optimized operating system (e.g. iOS, Android, Windows Phone). There’s a trend emerging, however, in which traditional mobile devices are gaining functionality typically associated with PCs. At the same time, PCs are being architected more like mobile devices — an interbreeding of species, if you will. The iPad Pro, for example, has a keyboard. With Windows 10, phones and tablets can run “Universal” apps that also run on PCs. Windows 10 also has application-layer sandboxing, code-signing, and an app store with apps pre-vetted by Microsoft. In certain configurations (i.e. enterprise-managed devices), a laptop running Windows 10 has a security architecture that looks strikingly similar to a smartphone or tablet.

Medium organizations around the globe are increasingly concerned about cyberthreats, and the rising number of incidents shared publicly certainly justifies their worries. In the first half of 2009, for example, McAfee Labs saw almost as much new malware as it did in all of 2008. At the same time, most organizations have frozen or cut their IT security budgets. Threats up, budgets down. This is what we call the "security paradox."

"Financial services institutions are high-value targets for cyberattacks because of the capital they control, the personal information on customers they maintain, and the fear an attack on a bank generates in the public. Phishing attacks on FSIs have risen steadily, especially employee credential theft - because once an employee’s credentials are stolen, cyberattackers can access customer information, employee data, even finances. While legacy security solutions claim to block up to 99.9 percent of cyberattacks, all it takes is one employee or contractor to open an email from an unknown source, download a file from a compromised website, or in any other way fall victim to a cyberattack. So, it’s time for a new approach: Isolation, also known as, remote browsing. Download this Financial Services Best Practices Guide to Isolation to learn how to best eliminate phishing attacks and web malware. "

Download this white paper to find out: *How Menlo Security Labs recently isolated a multi-stage document attack *What tools, techniques and procedures ( TTPs ) are attackers using to infect victims’ devices *How Isolation can foil the attack before it can even start "
