"Whaling attacks have risen in recent months and these emails are more difficult to detect because they don’t contain a malicious hyperlink or attachment, and rely solely on social-engineering to trick their targets. In order to combat these attacks, organizations must be aware of the dangers presented by whaling, or CEO fraud, and put the right safeguards in place. Mimecast conducted a whaling attack survey with 500 organizations around the globe and the results were alarming. Read this report to learn: - The five key phases of a whaling attack - How to protect your organization from a whaling attack through company exercises, education, and technology. - What Mimecast is offering to combat these attacks in its industry-leading Targeted Threat Protection service."

Email. You use it constantly. And it’s the number-one application to keep your organization functioning, lines of communication flowing, and productivity seamless. Organizations need email to stay up-and running all the time. After all, it’s supposed to just work, right? This is where trouble often sets in. Cybercriminals use email constantly, too. It’s the number-one vector used to initiate attacks like malware delivery (think ransomware), impersonations and phishing attacks. In fact, almost 90% of organizations* have seen the volume of phishing attacks either rise or stay the same over the past 12 months. Internal threats have also been on the rise: Most organizations have encountered internal threats driven by careless employees (88%), compromised accounts (80%) or malicious insiders (70%) over the last year.

Two-thirds of all internally generated email sent is from employees communicating within an organization*. Yet most IT organizations only focus on inbound email when it comes to protecting against cyber-attacks. In doing so, they ignore the serious risks posed by internal and outbound emails and the actions of two at risk groups of users - the compromised and careless employee. Mimecast Internal Email Protect extends the security capabilities of Targeted Threat Protection to provide advanced inside-the-perimeter defenses. Watch this on-demand webinar where Mimecast’s Chief Trust Officer, Marc French, and Cyber Security Strategist, Bob Adams discuss: The top things to do to optimize your Targeted Threat Protection implementation and prepare for addressing the threats on the inside. The multiple ways internal email threats start, and why human error nearly always plays a role. The scale and impact of attacks that spread via internal email. Email. It’s the number-one business application used by organizations. It’s also the number-one method used to execute cyberattacks, enabling malware delivery, phishing, impersonations, and the spread of threats that are already internal to your organization. In fact, 91 percent of all cyberattacks start with an email. And your organization can’t function for long without email. How many hours of email downtime can your organization comfortably live with? If email isn’t accessible due to an adverse incident like malicious intent, human error or technical failure, your organization would likely suffer. The only way to get ahead of cybercriminals and to holistically protect your business is to adopt a new approach to email security. You need a multidimensional approach that brings together threat protection, adaptability, durability and recoverability in a single cloud-based service. You need to enable these four dimensions to truly provide cyber resilience for your email.

The enterprise landscape has changed dramatically with the influx of millennials — and their preferred devices — into the workforce. As a result, Macs that were once limited to mostly niche usage are now rapidly expanding their enterprise footprint. These devices require the same level of security and oversight that organizations apply to all of their other devices. Otherwise, the risk of leaving Macs either unmanaged or secured by point products creates security gaps that can leave the enterprise open to cyberattacks and compliance violations. The good news is, MobileIron makes it easy to secure Macs the same way all other devices in the enterprise are managed. No integrations, additional training, or learning curves are involved. The time has come for a modern approach to Mac management that is seamless for end users, improves operational efficiency, and simplifies IT operations across the entire device lifecycle. MobileIron makes it all possible.

The types of threats targeting enterprises are vastly different than they were just a couple of decades ago. Today, successful enterprise attacks are rarely executed by the “lone wolf” hacker and instead come from highly sophisticated and professional cybercriminal networks. These networks are driven by the profitability of ransomware and the sale of confidential consumer data, intellectual property, government intelligence, and other valuable data. While traditional PC-based antivirus solutions can offer some protection against these attacks, organizations need highly adaptive and much faster mobile threat defense (MTD) for enterprise devices.

As cyberattacks and fraud continue to increase in frequency and sophistication, organizations are placing a greater emphasis on cyberthreat intelligence as a way to protect against compromise, data breach, and losses from online fraud. Measuring the true value of threat intelligence has been difficult however. For the first time the Ponemon Institute has conducted a study that reveals the facts behind the impact that weak threat intelligence is having on organizations.

The number one technology issue in the C-suite today is cyber-security. And there’s no wonder—attacks are becoming more numerous and more sophisticated than ever. The cost of cyber-crime to the global economy has topped more than $445 billion2 – equivalent to 1% of global GDP. Sometimes cyber-crime can seem unstoppable – while firms spent more than $75 billion on cyber-defences in 20153 , cyber-crime grew by 38% that year. That’s why C-suite executives everywhere are asking: What can we do to make a difference in defending against hackers, cyber-criminals and digital spies?

Research conducted by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), sponsored by Oracle, provides answers. The results show that a proactive security strategy backed by a fully engaged C-suite and board of directors reduced the growth of cyber-attacks and breaches by 53% over comparable firms. These findings were compiled from responses by 300 firms, across multiple industries, against a range of attack modes and over a two-year period from February 2014 to January 2016. The lessons are clear. As cyber-attackers elevate their game, the response must be an enterprise solution. Only C-suites and boards of directors marshal the authority and resources to support a truly enterprise-wide approach. In sum, proactive cyber-security strategies, supported by senior management, can cut vulnerability to cyber-attack in half.

Your enterprise runs its critical applications on Oracle Databases, and as an enterprise IT leader, maintaining the performance and availability of your databases is among your top priorities. Any degradation in performance or loss of data could result in serious business disruption and loss of revenue, so protecting this vital asset is a must. There are many causes of data loss— administration errors, system or media failures, cyberattacks, and more—but we often overlook design flaws in the very systems meant to protect data: general-purpose backup systems. Many existing data protection solutions fail to meet the demands of critical databases because they treat them as generic files to copy as opposed to specialized resources. Taking a generic approach to database backup and recovery not only exposes you to the risk of data loss, it also negatively impacts performance and makes it difficult to recover within acceptable timeframes.

Enterprises like yours face the growing risk of cyberattacks, which increases your exposure to the risk of data loss. One of the most menacing forms of these is ransomware, where your data is encrypted and literally held ransom—until you pay cybercriminals to release it, or you recover your data from a point in time before your systems were attacked. Such attacks and data losses make headlines —damaging your organization’s reputation. And with new regulations concerning data protection coming into force (such as those introduced by the US Department of the Treasury and the European Union) failing to prepare for a quick recovery from a cyberattack could mean serious financial penalties.

The purpose of IT backup and recovery systems is to avoid data loss and recover quickly, thereby minimizing downtime costs. Traditional storage-centric data protection architectures such as Purpose Built Backup Appliances (PBBAs), and the conventional backup and restore processing supporting them, are prone to failure on recovery. This is because the processes, both automated and manual, are too numerous, too complex, and too difficult to test adequately. In turn this leads to unacceptable levels of failure for today’s mission critical applications, and a poor foundation for digital transformation initiatives. Governments are taking notice. Heightened regulatory compliance requirements have implications for data recovery processes and are an unwelcome but timely catalyst for companies to get their recovery houses in order. Onerous malware, such as ransomware and other cyber attacks increase the imperative for organizations to have highly granular recovery mechanisms in place that allow
