A significant challenge for many organizations has been enabling their analysts to find the "unknown unknown." Whether that unknown is malware lurking within the enterprise or within slight variations in fraudulent transactions, the result has been the same: enterprises continue to fall victim to cybercrime. IBM is addressing this challenge with IBM i2 Enterprise Insight Analysis. By pairing multi-dimensional visual analysis capabilities with powerful analytics tools, IBM is giving the analyst team an effective early-detection, cyberintelligence weapon for its arsenal.

Protecting a business – including its information and intellectual property, physical infrastructure, employees, and reputation – has become increasingly difficult. Online threats come from all sides: internal leaks and external adversaries; domestic hacktivists and overseas cybercrime syndicates; targeted threats and mass attacks. And these threats run the gamut from targeted to indiscriminate to entirely accidental. Like many security trends and frameworks, the early stages of adoption often involve inconsistent definitions, challenges with justification and management communication and an unknown path to implementation. In this white paper, we: • Review the current threatscape and why it requires this new approach • Offer a clarifying definition of what cyber threat Intelligence is • Describe how to communicate its value to the business and • Lay out some concrete initial steps toward implementing Intelligence-Led Security

Machine learning is all around us, from our smart home applications to driverless automobiles. The efficiency of automated decision-making is changing the game in cybersecurity, expanding the capabilities of humans by sifting through enormous quantities of data and presenting it as actionable intelligence. Machine learning makes security teams better, and vice versa. Human-machine teams deliver the best of both worlds, allowing endpoint security to continually evolve to stop new attack tactics. Your team deserves the best that cybersecurity has to offer, and today the best endpoint security products leverage machine learning.

For the past decade, financial institutions have created sophisticated digital platforms for consumers to access, save, share and interact with their financial accounts. As sophisticated as these digital platforms have become, cyber criminals continue to pose an ever-present risk for everyone – from individual consumers to large corporations. In his recent article, 2018 Outlook: Customer Experience and Security Strike a Balance, Andrew Davies, vice president of global market strategy for Fiserv’s Financial Crime Risk Management division, explains how and why security will become a key differentiator for financial institutions as they respond to a changing landscape, which includes: • Global payment initiatives • Open Banking standards • Artificial intelligence and machine learning • Consumer demand for real-time fraud prevention and detection

The types of threats targeting enterprises are vastly different than they were just a couple of decades ago. Today, successful enterprise attacks are rarely executed by the “lone wolf” hacker and instead come from highly sophisticated and professional cybercriminal networks. These networks are driven by the profitability of ransomware and the sale of confidential consumer data, intellectual property, government intelligence, and other valuable data. While traditional PC-based antivirus solutions can offer some protection against these attacks, organizations need highly adaptive and much faster mobile threat defense (MTD) for enterprise devices.

Research conducted by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), sponsored by Oracle, provides answers. The results show that a proactive security strategy backed by a fully engaged C-suite and board of directors reduced the growth of cyber-attacks and breaches by 53% over comparable firms. These findings were compiled from responses by 300 firms, across multiple industries, against a range of attack modes and over a two-year period from February 2014 to January 2016. The lessons are clear. As cyber-attackers elevate their game, the response must be an enterprise solution. Only C-suites and boards of directors marshal the authority and resources to support a truly enterprise-wide approach. In sum, proactive cyber-security strategies, supported by senior management, can cut vulnerability to cyber-attack in half.

Behind the vast majority of legitimate alerts sent to the IT security team is an attacker who exploits multiple attack techniques to infiltrate your infrastructure and compromise your critical data and systems. Targeted multi-phased attacks include a series of cyber attack chain steps: recognition, vulnerability analysis, operation and, finally, exfiltration of critical business data.

As cyberattacks and fraud continue to increase in frequency and sophistication, organizations are placing a greater emphasis on cyberthreat intelligence as a way to protect against compromise, data breach, and losses from online fraud. Measuring the true value of threat intelligence has been difficult however. For the first time the Ponemon Institute has conducted a study that reveals the facts behind the impact that weak threat intelligence is having on organizations.

The world has changed. Yesterday everyone had a managed PC for work and all enterprise data was behind a firewall. Today, mobile devices are the control panel for our personal and professional lives. This change has contributed to the single largest technology-driven lifestyle change of the last 10 years. As productivity tools, mobile devices now access significantly more data than in years past. This has made mobile the new frontier for a wide spectrum of risk that includes cyber attacks, a range of malware families, non-compliant apps that leak data, and vulnerabilities in device operating systems or apps. A secure digital business ecosystem demands technologies that enable organizations to continuously monitor for threats and provide enterprise-wide visibility into threat intelligence.
