Hey all, this is David Press and Doug Lardo, two engineers working on improving the data center networking that enables online services at Riot. This article is the third part in a series on exactly that topic, which begins with an overview from Jonathan of a platform we called rCluster. This time we’ll be discussing our approach to Software Defined Networking (SDN), how we integrate SDN with Docker, and the new infrastructure paradigms that this combination has unlocked for us. If you’re curious about how SDN can transform infrastructure, how to empower developers to obtain and secure networking resources via an API, or how to get out of purchasing larger and larger specialized networking appliances, this article is for you.

Matthew Coy, Safelite’s Vice President of Information Technology, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s IT infrastructure, including selecting, administering, and supporting technology products. The company handles personally identifiable information, including credit card information and insurance data collected from several sources, and must comply with insurance industry regulations and the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. Safelite is the target of constant external attacks. The organization experienced ongoing security issues stemming from infected software, drivebys and other malicious downloads. According to Matthew, “A lot of malware and email viruses were making it through the environment, all bypassing our email security and AV.” Not only were the security controls ineffective, the previous AV platform required nearly 150 hours per week to manage. Matthew knew Safelite needed to make a change, and fast. Having worked with Cylance® at two previous companies, he was confident CylancePROTECT® could significantly improve Safelite’s endpoint security. Read the full case study to learn about the results Cylance was able to deliver.

Today's IT departments are increasingly challenged by the complexity of managing disparate components within their data centers. Rapidly proliferating silos of server, storage, and networking resources combined with numerous management tools and operational processes have led to crippling inefficiencies and costs.

Any organization wishing to process big data from newly identified data sources, needs to first determine the characteristics of the data and then define the requirements that need to be met to be able to ingest, profile, clean, transform and integrate this data to ready it for analysis. Having done that, it may well be the case that existing tools may not cater for the data variety, data volume and data velocity that these new data sources bring. If this occurs then clearly new technology will need to be considered to meet the needs of the business going forward.

In this ebook, we dive into how identity management streamlines access to the cloud while protecting corporate data. The location of many resources is changing to the cloud, yet companies still need central management of those resources. Trying to maintain security and order in a chaotic free-for-all use of cloud apps and bring-your-own-device culture is like a black hole sucking in IT’s time—time they could be dedicating to other projects. OneLogin’s cloud identity management platform spans the entire application portfolio with secure single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), user provisioning, integration with common directory infrastructures such as Active Directory (AD), Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), and various cloud directories, and more. We recommend the following: • IT departments leverage OneLogin for all their identity management needs • IT departments educate users about security and safe sharing • App owners enable Security Assertion M

Modern data centers have and continue to undergo transformation. Driven by familiar trends, green IT, endpoint growth, externalization, and increased resource requirements, modern data centers support more services, users, and data than ever before. The potential of new risks to the modern data center demands renewed attention to data center security. Data center architects must build in proper security controls, and policies and processes to address and mitigate these new risks.

Gaining the trust of online customers is vital for the success of any company that transfers sensitive data over the Web. When shopping online, consumers are concerned about identity theft and are therefore wary of providing untrusted sources with their personal information, especially their credit card details. Other types of online businesses require different but equally sensitive information. People are reluctant to provide their national insurance numbers, passwords, or other confidential personal information, or sometimes even just name, address, and phone number. Perhaps the information will be intercepted in transit, they fear, or perhaps the destination itself is manned by imposters with ill intent.  The result is an abandoned transaction.

Businesses today are faced with the almost insurmountable task of complying with a confusing array of laws and regulations relating to data privacy and security. These can come from a variety of sources: local, state, national, and, even, international law makers. This is not just a problem for big businesses. Even a small business with a localised geographic presence may be subject to laws from other states and, possibly, other nations by virtue of having a presence on the internet. In many instances, these laws and regulations are vague and ambiguous, with little specific guidance as to compliance. Worse yet, the laws of different jurisdictions may be, and frequently are, conflicting. One state or country may require security measures that are entirely different from those of another state or country. Reconciling all of these legal obligations can be, at best, a full time job and, at worst, the subject of fines, penalties, and lawsuits.

Stop to think about how – and how often – your business interacts with customers. Every day, with each interaction, data is created. What percentage of the data generated by these interactions are you using? There are so many channels for interaction, like social media, call centers, sales staff, help and support resources, marketing and campaigns. Typically, organizations believe that they are using only a small fraction of it effectively – at best, upwards of 10 percent of all the available data. Why? One reason relates to the difficulties in collecting all this data. This limitation is beginning to wane as commodity hardware becomes increasingly popular for big data storage. But another major inhibitor to examining all customer data has been the inability to examine millions, or even billions, of data points that constitute the customer picture. And much of this is now in the form of unstructured text inputs.

Businesses increasingly recognize that their customers and workers are engaging in ways that were inconceivable when their essential applications were first architected, according to Chris Rechtsteiner, vice president of marketing for ServerCentral. “A group in one country has to have the exact same service levels as a location in another country, and half the people are internal end users, while the other half are external customers,” he says. As their businesses have globalized, their most strategic applications have struggled to keep pace. “Companies are coming to us, asking ‘How do we do this? How do we solve this problem?’ That’s really what it comes down to.”

To meet the business imperative for enterprise integration and stay competitive, companies must manage the increasing variety, volume and velocity of new data pouring into their systems from an ever-expanding number of sources. They need to bring all their corporate data together, deliver it to end users as quickly as possible to maximize its value, and integrate it at a more granular level than ever before—focusing on the individual transaction level, rather than on general summary data. As data volumes continue to explode, clients must take advantage of a fully scalable information integration architecture that supports any type of data integration technique such as ETL, ELT (also known as ETL Pushdown), data replication or data virtualization. Read this new whitepaper to learn about the seven essential elements needed to achieve the highest performance.

Every day, torrents of data inundate IT organizations and overwhelm the business managers who must sift through it all to glean insights that help them grow revenues and optimize profits. Yet, after investing hundreds of millions of dollars into new enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), master data management systems (MDM), business intelligence (BI) data warehousing systems or big data environments, many companies are still plagued with disconnected, “dysfunctional” data—a massive, expensive sprawl of disparate silos and unconnected, redundant systems that fail to deliver the desired single view of the business.
