According to the American Community Survey, tele-commuting jumped 79 percent between 2005 and 2012. More than 9 million American workers did their jobs exclusively from home in 2010, according to the U.S. Census, and 30 million work from home at least once a week. And TechCast at George Washington University estimates as many as 30 percent of U.S. private sector workers could be working from home by 2019. For sales professionals, that proportion is certainly higher. The Telework Research Network found in 2011 that 70 percent of those working from home are in management, professional, sales and office jobs. If you’re in sales, you probably spend a considerable amount of time on the go. And why shouldn’t you? Smartphones offer constant, pocket-sized connectivity. Ubiquitous Wifi threatens to render the cubicle obsolete, and the right social networking strategy can sup-plant a hundred individual pitch meetings.

Connections are great. Having a network to connect to is even better. Humans have been connecting, in one form or another, throughout history. Our cities were born from the drive to move closer to each other so that we might connect. And while the need to connect hasn’t changed, the way we do it definitely has. Nowhere is this evolution more apparent than in business. In today’s landscape, business is more virtual, geographically dispersed and mobile than ever, with companies building new data centers and clustering servers in separate locations.

To best support global users and customers, enterprises require seamlessly connectivity between branch office locations, applications, and workloads hosted in the cloud. Many WAN solutions are ill-equipped for this task because they are generally rigid, complex to configure, and expensive to maintain. IoT adoption, a dramatic increase of the number of network devices, and the sophistication of security threats further compounds this challenge. Geographically-distributed devices need secure cloud connectivity, limiting the ability of existing WAN solutions to fulfill the need of distributed organizations. Cisco SD-WAN on Amazon Web Services (AWS) is an overlay WAN architecture that is designed to address modern enterprise cloud applications and workloads, heterogeneous WAN connectivity, distributed global workforces, and other business needs that traditional WAN solutions cannot meet. " For any business that wants to successfully compete in today’s digital economy, it is not a question of if but rather how much of their business will be done with cloud applications. A cloud application is one with many endpoints including browsers, mobile devices, and/or machines that are geographically distributed. The application is intensely transactional (high velocity reads and/or writes), always available, and instantaneously responsive no matter the number of users or machines using the application. Download this free white paper and explore how DataStax customers are delivering real-time value at epic scale with their cloud applications. Explore the core database requirements that make businesses successful with cloud applications, which include continuous availability, linear scale, and geographic distribution."

Big-box retailers often have the resources, product variety, and name recognition to get ahead of smaller competitors. However, small and midsize businesses are able to crush the big-box stores where it matters most—the customer experience. Whether by design, geography, or as a matter of principle, small and midsize retailers are closer to their customers and are able to engage them on a level that big-box stores simply cannot. This closeness—combined with the right retail management system—allows smaller business to deliver a superior shopping experience with: • Special orders • Predictive inventory analysis • Digital, mobile channels and device integration This white paper—written by Innovative Retail Technologies and sponsored by Epicor—explains how the right software solution leads to a more agile retail strategy, which then leads to a better experience for your customers.

ADCs are advanced load balancers with functions and features that enhance the performance of applications. Today, companies of all sizes with geographical dispersal of people and different data constructs require ADCs to optimize their complex application environments from web applications, to Exchange, SharePoint and databases. It is interesting that before the term ADC was used more recently (in the last decade), companies relied on load balancers for website availability and scalability. In this paper we will describe the fundamentals of a load balancing system and its evolution to an ADC.

For many companies, language barriers increase as business globalization becomes the norm rather than the exception. Perhaps a call center agent cannot handle customer contact in an unfamiliar language. Or a manager travels to a face-toface meeting only to sit across a conference table from clients wanting to speak in their own native language. Even within your organization, teams across global geographies must collaborate to achieve collective goals, but language barriers often stand in their way. Meanwhile, HR leaders are tasked with recruiting and retaining top talent and L&D managers must align programs with business goals. Each of these scenarios and areas of responsibility have something in common: A clear need for company-sponsored training to develop employees’ language proficiency so they can engage successfully with colleagues and customers anywhere. Thousands of learners were surveyed about the impact of language training with Rosetta Stone® business solutions.1 Results show
