A successful Data Leak Prevention system will address the issue of email by policy, in a way that integrates with the systems your business has in place to address governance, risk and compliance rather than through a series of standalone tools.

In any enterprise there is information that has to be kept secret, but must be distributed, and therefore has to be identified with any recipient in the event that it is ‘leaked.’  This white paper addresses two examples of this requirement (boardroom secrets and mergers and acquisitions), and shows how to identify solutions that meet business needs for document protection and secure file sharing.

Protecting a business – including its information and intellectual property, physical infrastructure, employees, and reputation – has become increasingly difficult. Online threats come from all sides: internal leaks and external adversaries; domestic hacktivists and overseas cybercrime syndicates; targeted threats and mass attacks. And these threats run the gamut from targeted to indiscriminate to entirely accidental. Like many security trends and frameworks, the early stages of adoption often involve inconsistent definitions, challenges with justification and management communication and an unknown path to implementation. In this white paper, we: • Review the current threatscape and why it requires this new approach • Offer a clarifying definition of what cyber threat Intelligence is • Describe how to communicate its value to the business and • Lay out some concrete initial steps toward implementing Intelligence-Led Security

Information technology (IT) security is indispensable to an organization's ability to conduct business and achieve its objectives. Security requirements affect almost every business process and system, and successful security measures help protect a business’ brand value, stakeholder confidence, risk management strategies, and compliance status. Requirements vary among industries, geographies, and regions, but the need to protect privacy, retain important data, and facilitate e-discovery are common to all. This paper provides an overview of the regulatory landscape and identifies steps to take for defining a flexible compliance strategy.

Protecting individual and financial data, retaining data, and meeting e-discovery requirements are common compliance requirements across geographies and industries. Finding accurate, usable, and cost-effective solutions for meeting these requirements can make the difference between achieving compliance goals or leaving the organization vulnerable through unsecured use of sensitive data. Trend Micro Data Protection solutions for endpoint data leak protection, email encryption, and email archiving help organizations meet their compliance requirements – easily and cost-effectively.

The greatest threat to enterprise data security comes from inside threats. Securing the enterprise requires an understanding of the data leak points, environment, people, and processes for managing sensitive information. This white paper explains how network-based and endpoint-based solutions can work together to provide the broadest protection available while ensuring scalability and manageability, and that employee productivity is not impacted.

Data breaches can carry very serious consequences, such as the revelation in February 2008 that that the Hannaford Brothers chain of supermarkets lost more than four million debit and credit card numbers to hackers. The bottom line is that organizations must implement Data Loss Prevention (DLP) systems to protect themselves against the growing array of threats they face from inadvertent and malicious data leaks from email, instant messaging and other systems.

In January of 2008, a random sample of online technical newsletter subscribers at midsize companies (100-5,000 employees) received an email invitation to participate in a survey about data protection solutions use at their organizations. The goal of the survey was to identify sources of and/or reasons for information security breaches, and to better understand how businesses are planning to protect themselves against data leaks. The following report presents top line results of the study.

Companies rely on knowledge assets, such as product formulas and customer databases. VPNs and network monitors can protect proprietary information from outsiders; but, they won't do much to prevent access by internal users. With the popularity of wireless networks, USB drives and other portable devices, it's all too easy for insiders to leak key data. This white paper explains how Trend Micro LeakProof 3.0 protects sensitive data at rest, in use, and in motion.

Encryption will help to protect data against unauthorized access by outsiders from lost or stolen devices such as laptops, thumb drives, and other removable media. But it does not protect against the insider threat-employees and contractors with authorized access to data who mistakenly or maliciously leak your most valuable assets.

While advanced persistent threats and malware still plague some victims, it is ransomware that is still gaining real traction in today’s cybersecurity landscape. The EternalBlue flaw that took over the news in May 2017 rose to popularity as a result of its inclusion in the data leaked by The Shadow Brokers. Utilized in multiple attacks alongside the also-released DoublePulsar exploit, including the installation of cryptocurrency miner Adylkuzz, the exploits are just the tip of the cyberwarfare tools The Shadow Brokers are claiming to have in their arsenal. The latest EternalBlue and DoublePulsar based attacks, delivering the WannaCry Ransomware, have so far been hugely damaging to healthcare organizations while also impacting over 200,000 endpoints in 150 countries. WannaCry-WanaCryptor 2.0 was coupled with the EternalBlue exploit, allowing it to automatically propagate itself to vulnerable machines across the Internet. While not technically advanced, the use of EternalBlue and DoubleP

The uninhibited flow of information within today's business environment has become a prerequisite of an organization's success and smooth operation. But within every organization, some of that information will be sensitive, and ensuring its safekeeping involves a comprehensive security policy. Like water coursing through a pressurized system, information has an unnerving habit of 'leaking' out through unchecked weak spots which have been identified and exploited by unscrupulous individuals.

In the running battle with cyberthreats, your first line of defense is your IT staff: the system and network administrators, SOC and NOC operators, incident response and forensics analysts, and application development and QA teams. Are these IT professionals ready to take on an ever-growing army of innovative, persistent cybercriminals and hackers? Probably not, if you expect them to acquire the knowledge and skills they need through self-directed study and on-the-job training. There is too much to learn, and few members of the IT staff have the time to research every new threat. And you can’t afford to suffer through APTs, breaches and data leakages just to provide “teachable moments” for IT personnel. There is another solution. Security simulation immerses IT professionals in a realistic online environment and challenges them to fill the roles of cyberattackers and cyberdefenders. It borrows from education theory and online gaming to present knowledge in ways that motivate learning a

Data protection programs at most organizations are concerned with protecting sensitive data from external malicious attacks, relying on technical controls that include perimeter security, network/wireless surveillance and monitoring, application and point security management, and user awareness and education. In this paper, the different leakage points are mapped with regulations and best practices.

Most of today’s standards and compliance regulations are concerned largely with the protection of private data at rest, during transactions, and while it traverses network connections. Some of these regulations make specific recommendations or require particular technologies for compliance. For all of them, however, encryption can be employed to satisfy the protection requirements.

If company laptops, PDAs, or other mobile devices can't be found, it doesn't always mean that they've been stolen. Companies often lose track of these IT assets because there's no clear record of them. Encryption and inventory management can help to safeguard against the loss of confidential data.
