The current era in cyber security is characterized by three fundamental challenges: the complexity of the enterprise network and connected infrastructure, the speed of newage attacks, and the strain of overwhelmed incident responders. In many ways, the expansion of networks and continual adoption of new technologies - from cloud services to the Internet of Things - has expanded the attack surface and introduced new entry-points through which attackers can gain a foothold. This, combined with the ready availability of exploit kits on the Dark Web, has led to the ‘vicious circle of the SOC’, where incident responders are so busy fire-fighting that they rarely have time to implement the critical patches that would prevent the problem at source. As security teams struggle to keep up with the rising volume of routine attacks, a new generation of cyberthreat has also emerged, characterized in large part by fast-moving threats that make an impact well before humans have time to respond. Regardless of how many security controls are placed on a network and the components that go into making a network operate, there will always be vulnerabilities in a connected world. So, what do you do in an environment that allows for such risk of compromise? One of the best methods of protecting organizations is by ensuring that response capabilities are effective and efficient, and one of the most valuable steps in strengthening a response capability is learning from others’ experiences. This white paper discusses the pain points that organizations grapple with when responding to incidents, and how they can address them.

We’re experiencing a data explosion. By 2020 the data we create and copy annually will reach 44 trillion gigabytes.1 As this data disseminates into the workplace, companies add hardware and software systems to store, protect and manage it all. While data can help solve business problems, data is most helpful when it reaches those who can use it. Companies need to build Microsoft SharePoint apps that integrate with other line-of-business (LOB) systems so users can take full advantage of this data explosion. But the reality of creating apps that integrate data across organizational systems presents an intimidating challenge. To integrate multiple isolated data sources into an application that transforms data into useful information requires technical expertise, coding and ongoing maintenance. Integration also raises security and governance concerns. So it’s no surprise that only 47 percent of SharePoint users have connected their SharePoint apps with other systems.2 As a result, nearly

When you think about mobile security and policies, do you ever think about all the places your enterprise data is going? We operate in a mobile economy, with an estimated 16M mobile devices infected by malware at any given time. There are more mobile devices connected to the Internet than human beings in the world. The question is: Are we prepared for that?

Event logs provide valuable information to troubleshoot operational errors, and investigate potential security exposures. They are literally the bread crumbs of the IT world. As a result, a commonly-used approach is to collect logs from everything connected to the network "just in case" without thinking about what data is actually useful. But, as you're likely aware, the "collect everything" approach can actually make threat detection and incident response more difficult as you wade through massive amounts of irrelevant data. Join us for this session to learn practical strategies for defining what you actually need to collect (and why) to help you improve threat detection and incident response, and satisfy compliance requirements.

2017 was a momentous year in security, even though the DDoS landscape appeared to plateau. Maybe it was because Mirai hit so hard at the end of 2016 and the owners of other botnets were retooling to catch up. Maybe it was because news of large data breaches captured so many headlines, drawing the attention of both criminals and the public. Or maybe it is simply due to the cyclical nature of attack popularity that we have seen in the past. No matter the cause, our prediction is that the trend won’t continue in 2018, and it is not time to be complacent. The Mirai botnet is far from played out, as botnet creators are continuing to modify the source code for their individual needs and, with more connected platforms devices than ever, the Internet will continue to offer fertile ground for largescale attacks.
