This whitepaper provides guidance on common high-availability and scale-out deployment architectures, and discusses the factors to consider for your specific business environment. Three basic models are described for deploying an on-site managed file transfer (MFT) solution. The attributes of each option are described; each has pros and cons and offers a different balance of cost, complexity, availability, and scalability. The paper explains that, no matter how reliable each model is, any deployment can experience outages. The recommendation is to use clustering services to protect your data when the inevitable hardware, software, or network failures occur.

For advanced signaling over high-loss channels, designs today are using equalization and several new measurement methods to evaluate the performance of the link. Both simulation and measurement tools support equalization and the new measurement methods, but correlation of results throughout the design flow is unclear. In this paper a high performance equalizing serial data link is measured and the performance is compared to that predicted by simulation. Then, the differences between simulation and measurements are discussed as well as methods to correlate the two.

Microsoft Azure is a public cloud platform featuring powerful on-demand infrastructure and solutions for building and deploying applications workloads as well as a wide variety of IT and application services. You can use Azure as a public cloud provider and as a hybrid extension to existing on-premises infrastructure. Organizations that use Microsoft solutions on-premises are able to extend their infrastructure and operational processes to Azure. With the growing popularity of Azure, today’s systems administrators need to acquire and strengthen their skills on this fast-growing public cloud platform. In this guide we explore the Azure public cloud platform with a focus on the Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) features. We cover general architectural features of the Azure cloud including geographic regions, availability zones, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) attached to the core Azure IaaS infrastructure.

On the 13th February 2017, the Privacy Amendment (Notifiable Data Breaches) Act was passed in the Australian Parliament, introducing a mandatory notification regime. This bill commences on the 23rd February 2018 and will require organisations to notify data subjects and regulators in the event of an “eligible” data breach. An “eligible data breach” will occur where: ? There is unauthorised access to, or unauthorised disclosure of, the information; and ? A reasonable person would conclude that the access or disclosure would be likely to result in serious harm to any of the individuals to whom the information relates The amended legislation provides greater clarity to Australian citizens about the privacy of their personal information and will affect Australian companies as well as international organisations with Australian operations. It also means that businesses must carefully think about the practical issues related to data breach responses and the disruptive consequences of any un

In today’s application driven, cloud agnostic world, many organizations still rely on legacy, multiple point backup and recovery products that consist of backup software, target storage, media and master servers, and cloud gateways, all from different vendors. With slow backups and long recovery times of their existing backup products, organizations are unable to meet their tight business SLAs. Constant forklift upgrades and complex management UIs make it expensive to manage the current backup and recovery environments.

Walk past your data center, and you might hear a soft, plaintive call: “Feed me, feed me…” It is not your engineers demanding more pizza. It is your servers and applications. And the call is growing louder. Mobile and virtualized workloads, cloud applications, big data, heterogeneous devices: they are all growing in your business, demanding previously unimagined capacity and performance from your servers and data center fabric. And that demand is not slacking. Your employees, applications, and competitive advantage increasingly depend on it. Those servers and applications need to be fed. And if you have not started planning for 40 gigabits per second (Gbps) to the server rack, you will need to soon.
