Today, government IT teams are expected to deliver more services with fewer resources. Consequently, many agencies have prioritized legacy modernization, interoperability, and shared service models as a means towards increasing IT delivery capacity. We propose that successful execution of these initiatives within the confines of a strictly managed budget requires a new approach to integration, one centered around APIs. Our recommended approach, API-led connectivity, builds on the principles of re-use first outlined by SOA, while avoiding many of the pitfalls that limited the success of heavyweight SOA implementations. In this whitepaper, you will learn: What forces drive digital transformation in federal government, and what role integration plays in supporting digital transformation How a civilian federal agency leveraged APIs to modernize legacy systems and accelerate the speed of integration How to build out an API-led architecture within a government agency to accelerate project

"In the wake of recent legislative pressures and the formation of the Digital Transformation Agency, Australian state and federal government agencies face an imperative to deliver superior digital services to employees and citizens without a corresponding increase in budget. As a result, many agencies have turned to IT modernisation as a means of driving more cost-effective digital transformation. The key to successful execution of digital transformation initiatives depends on a new approach to integration and API strategy called API-led connectivity. In this whitepaper, you will learn: -Why Australian government agencies must change how they deliver IT projects, and the role integration and an API strategy play in supporting the modernisation of government IT -How to build out an API-led architecture within a government agency to realise 2-5x increases in IT productivity -How best practice from initiatives like Service NSW provide a model for government agencies to pursue digital t

In response to the federal government’s Cloud First initiative, agencies are moving to the cloud at an accelerated rate - moving on-premise applications, data and workloads to cloud infrastructure and adopting SaaS technologies like Salesforce, ServiceNow and Workday. What many in government have found is that integration and looking for government integration solutions has emerged as a stumbling block that has prevented government from realizing many of the benefits of moving to the cloud. This is because while a growing number of applications adopted by government are in the cloud, the underlying integration technologies connecting these applications are still based on-premise, meaning that government IT teams still have to spend time provisioning and maintaining infrastructure to ensure that their middleware doesn’t become a performance bottleneck for their applications. Join us for a conversation with MuleSoft CISO Kevin Paige on why cloud integration is key for agencies to succe

We’re living through a time where people, organizations and societies not only rely but thrive upon secure, simple and fast access to information. From small businesses, startups, enterprises and global conglomerates across all verticals; to local, state and federal governments; to educational institutions and nonprofits, we are continuously investing in our employees, devices, applications, networks and infrastructure that enable us to drive our collective missions forward. Ten years ago, business and technology leaders catalyzed a cloud app revolution that has changed the way organizations manage IT. However, through this transformative shift, the core requirements of IT remain the same. Technology leaders are responsible for ensuring that 1) information assets remain confidential and protected, 2) information systems are available and operational, and 3) people are empowered and productive with the apps and information they need. IAM is a technology and security discipline that has

The term “Cloud First” was initially popularized by Vivek Kundra, who formerly held the post of White House CIO and launched this strategy for U.S. federal government IT modernization at the Cloud Security Alliance Summit 2011. The underlying philosophy of the cloud-first strategy is that organizations must initially evaluate the suitability of cloud computing to address emergent business requirements before other alternatives are considered.

Mobility is critical to government productivity, but mobile data and devices present attractive targets to cybercriminals seeking to exploit vulnerabilities across the spectrum. Federal agencies are no strangers to cybersecurity attacks, and several recent high-profile breaches involving mobile devices demonstrate ongoing vulnerabilities in government’s expanding network of endpoints. This issue brief describes what can be done to protect devices, data and networks, including multi-factor authentication to authorization controls and user education.

This IDC white paper examines the drivers behind the adoption of IoT technologies by public services organizations and why the IoT is becoming a key investment priority. Public services are comprised of a diverse set of organizations, including federal, regional and local governments and healthcare and social services providers. These all have mandates to improve the safety, health and quality of life of their constituents across a broad range of programs. This paper also provides market insights and describes examples of IoT implementations that highlight the diversity of scenarios in the public service sector. These diverse scenarios illustrate the impact IoT solutions can have across many citizen-centric services.

To support open government initiatives and uphold the values of transparency, participation and collaboration in the US, federal agencies today make their data open, or publicly accessible. Citizens can use this open data to assess college affordability, the economy, educational issues, environmental damage, health care, taxes, agriculture, the climate and more. Governments can use APIs to pull this open data into SAS Visual Analytics as a way to identify trends and patterns and obtain all sorts of new insights. With public health surveillance, for example, governments can monitor and evaluate indicators that point to high-risk areas so they’ll know where and how to focus efforts. Such public health surveillance can serve as an early warning system for impending emergencies, document the impact of an intervention, track progress toward public health goals, and clarify health problems to inform public health policies and strategies.

Passed on May 9, 2014, the Digital Accountability and Transparency Act (DATA Act) legislation requires federal agencies to report all expenditures—grants, loans, and contracts—in order to provide American citizens and policy makers better visibility into federal spending. At first glance, new federal requirements— which are scheduled to go in effect May 2017—can seem like imposed obligations with unknown benefits to the implementers. However, wise agencies and early adopters recognize how to transform this new compliance obligation into an opportunity to advance their federal agency by becoming more data driven. The Federal Government maintains vast amounts of data, and the DATA Act establishes data standards and sharing protocols that will help agencies exploit the benefits of data mining and analytics.
